CHELSEA BRIDGE. Open till late, Battersea Park tea-stall opposite the old power station is a favourite when the rest of the world has gone to bed. But police have cracked down on the stunts and a long cooling off period may be necessary before the Friday night activity returns to its former glory.

PAIGNTON, DEVON. From spring to autumn the seafront is home to one of the country’s biggest and best bike nights organised as a charity fundraiser by BMD (Bikers Make A Difference). These mostly Wednesday evening sessions run from 6pm and begin this year on 27 May, The usual Bike of the Night prize is worth £50 but it’s £500 on 15 July, 5 and 9 August. The 2009 season kicks off with the Paignton Bike Festival by the same organisers on 1-3 May.
POOLE QUAY, DORSET. Superb bike nights run Tuesday evenings from early April to late September with Bike of the Night winners invited back to compete in a grand finale.
SKEGNESS. A favourite summer Sunday destination for bikers. Two big seafront car parks close to amusements, chippies and cafes. Picnic tables at Gibraltar Point for those seeking a quiet escape. Skegness MCC welcomes visitors to their meets at the aptly named Welcome Inn, Borough Road, 8.30pm 1st Wednesday of the month.
SOUTHEND-ON-SEA. London in trunks and bikinis. Lots of bikers most summer weekends, but head there on the 1st Wednesday of the month and drop in on the local MAG meeting which starts about 8.30pm at the Cork and Cheese in the town centre’s Victoria Plaza.
WALTON ON THE NAZE. Central Kiosk, Princes Esplanade CO14 8PJ. Good place to pick up your MCM and a drink before facing the bracing sea breeze at this Essex resort. Open February to start of December.
WESTON-SUPER-MARE, SOMERSET. The annual beach meeting here is the biggie attracting upwards of 100,000 spectators. The 2009 races are on 10 and 11 October. Thursday evening bike nights were also launched in the resort in 2008 to raise funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Day Appeal.
