Sheene machine back on track

The discovery and return to the track of Barry Sheene’s number one 1983 RG500 GP Suzuki is the front page story in the August issue of Motor Cycle Monthly. The bike, which had spent 12 years or so in anonymity as a front room ornament, was bought for use as a trackday hack. Only then did a check on frame and engine number reveal its true pedigree. After Sheene’s use of the bike it was passed in 1984 to Mick Grant who raced it to victory at that year’s Macau GP. The bike has been rescued by Tony Salt, former tyre man for both Sheene and Grant, and made its track return ridden by Grant this July at the Spa Bikers’ Meet in Belgium and the following weekend’s Sheene Run at Scarborough. Read the full story in this month’s FREE MCM - you will find a list of stockist on this website. And in the meantime check out some more of the pictures we did not have room to include in the paper.
