Gary follows in his partner’s trike tracks

Trikes seemed to be everywhere we went this month but Gary Tompkins is the owner of the only Ducati Trike we have seen. The engine is a 900 Monster. The rear axle is by Trike Design (029 2088 0885).
Trikes are the route back into biking for many disabled motorcyclists. Gary’s story is somewhat different. Although he lost a leg in a bike accident in 1983 he was soon back in the saddle on a solo Honda CB400/4 he modified himself. Trikes entered his life because of his partner Sandra Watson. The XV1100 she bought captured his imagination.
Gary put the Monster trike together himself and won Machine of the Year at the recent Monster UK Club Weekender. Gary and Sanda helped man the NABD stand at the BMF’s GEMS Rally. But for the last time. Gary has been NABD’s regional rep for six years and Sandra has put in just as much work for the club but they have decided to take a break and hand the reins on. A grateful club presented the couple with tankards at the show.
