World Superbikes, Brands Hatch, Kent. This has in recent years been the best attended motorcycle race meeting in Britain but with no British riders in the 2008 series, the bubble may well burst. What could still draw the crowd is the very real prospect of a British victory in the 600 Supersport race with Jonathan Rea and Craig Jones heading a strong home challenge. Sturgis Bike Week, Blackhills of Dakota, USA. World’s biggest bike rally now in its 68th year. About 500,000 bikers expected – one on a Honda, 499,999 on Harleys. Rideouts, custom shows, beauty contests and loads of live music with the headliners at various concerts including ZZ Top, Alice Cooper and Lynryrd Skynrd. Our own Ace Café will be running a satellite operation in Sturgis and bikes competing for the top custom prize include the award-winning efforts of Larry Houghton of Lamb Engineering from Wiltshire. Superbikes in the Square, George Square, Glasgow. The City Council have again given the OK for BSB Superbikes to be displayed and fired up in the centre of Glasgow as a promo for the Knockhill round of the championship the following weekend. Last year 10,000 people turned up to watch. Type ‘Superbikes in the Square Glasgow’ into your internet search engine and take a gander at some of the video clips it throws up. Then you’ll want to go. And the big question: Is Shakey Byrne going to be as fast to the chippy for a battered Mars bar as he is through Donington’s Craner Curves? All will be revealed. More into www.knockhill.com

Bulldog Bash, Shakespeare County Raceway, Warwickshire, England. The legendary Hells Angels event the police tried to have stopped this year in the aftermath of the death of Angel Gerry Tobin who was shot dead as he rode home from last year’s Bash. Locals supported the Angels in their successful court action to have this, the 22 Bulldog, go ahead. This year’s bill includes live bands, one of the country’s most prestigious custom shows and everything from mud wrestling to a topless bike wash, but for many the highlight is the chance to run their own bikes on the quarter-mile drag strip. Beezumph 17, Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire. This event organised by the Trident and Rocket 3 Owners’ Club never ceases to surprise. This year it serves as a reunion of the 1971 British and American Trans-Atlantic Match Race Teams. Sadly Ray Pickrell died two years ago but all the other riders will be there. Percy Tait, Tony Jeffries, Paul Smart and John Cooper fly the flag for Britain while the pride of America is championed by Dick Mann, Gene Romero, Don Castro, Don Emde, David Aldana and Jim Rice. Expect some great specials too including three that have been made into a four and even a six! The event is both a track day and a rally but all the tickets for track sessions will have been snapped up by now (though it’s always worth checking). Rally tickets at £25 per person include the cost of camping, a hog roast and entertainment on both the Friday and Saturday evenings. Day tickets are £10 in advance or £15 on the gate. On the gate (without garment) it will knock you back all of £12. For that you get some great music including on the Saturday MFN owner and other former members of Showaddywaddy in what they modestly describe as the greatest rock n roll show ever. Miss Wet n Wild is also appearing during the four-day bash, there’s an air guitar competition, a tattooist in residence and as the bar is only closed for about two minutes a day it might be an idea to camp. The ambitious aim is to raise £10,000 for Christie Hospital. The Christmas theme means at least one of the live bands or DJ will be playing that Slade Christmas ditty that makes your teeth curl but your feet tap. Prizes in the £1 raffle are headed by two new bikes, a weekend in Paris, £100 booze hamper and £100 tattoo voucher. Tickets are a fiver and include food.
