WIN MECHANICS SHOW TICKETS
21-22 October, Classic Mechanics Show, Stafford County Showground, Stafford. www.classicbikeshows.com
Competition has now closed - winners will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday 17th)
This is the best motorcycle show in the world for fans of the 60s to 90s – that’s years not capacity! This is a must for anyone who stood at the Creg cheering on Mike Hailwood or at the Mallory hairpin urging ‘Mooneyes’ Cooper to bring the thundering works BSA Rocket 3 home ahead of Giacomo Agostini’s 500 MV.
It’s for those who marvelled at Barry Sheene’s skill and courage and remembers when four-stokes the size of trucks moved in to take over the scene.
And it’s for Fizzie owners who dreamed of getting their hands on an RD250 and for RD owners who yearned for a CBX1000 or Z1000.
The memories are brought alive at Stafford where you will be able to see the bikes, meet the stars, pick the brains of technical experts, inspect the latest restorations and snap up parts you need to keep your own projects on track. And if you are too young to have experienced all this magic first time round you are in for some fantastic discoveries.
This year there are two star guests at the show, which is being sponsored by Central Wheel Components – 11 times British champion Roger Marshall and Kiwi ace Graeme Crosby. They and other celebrities will be interviewed on stage by motorcycle journalist Jim Reynolds who is probably the oldest thing you will see at the event.
There will also be the chance to step outside and hear some of the exhibits being fired up in the main arena. Mick Grant’s hand will be on the throttle of his TT-winning 500cc Kawasaki – the very first of the factory’s water-cooled triples – and Phil Morris will be turning up the wick on his Bill Ivy replica Yamaha V4.
A 1984 Honda RS500 in Roger Marshall livery will be on display and visitors to the Mechanics stand can also get a close up look at the 120bhp Suzuki Katana Mechanics editor Rod Gibson has been running on the drag strip this season. Graeme Crosby’s legendary Moriwaki Z1000 is being showcased by the Z1 Owners’ Club and they have arranged an evening meet with the star, including a charity auction of some of his memorabilia, at the nearby Tillington Hall Hotel. Ask about tickets for that on their stand.
One of the great things about this show is that the judging of the bikes is completed in time for the results to be posted Saturday lunchtime. This means you have the chance to question the winners and ask for their tips and recommendations regarding paintwork, chroming and other services. In all there should be more than 1000 bikes on display and if that doesn’t fire you imagination you should attach jump leads to each ear.
Opening times: 9am-5pm both days.
Tickets: Adults £8.50 per day, seniors £6.50, under 15s £2. Discounts available for advance bookings on 01507 529300 or www.classicbikshows.com
